He Xirui is a professor at the College of Arts and Media, Southwest Jiaotong University and the Orchestra Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music. Through more than 30 years of researching and experimenting with both oriental and western crafting arts, He Xirui created the unique San-yuan violin with its signature outlook and exceptional tone.

2007年4月，经过30余年的潜心研究，何夕瑞制作、并命名为“何氏三圆琴”的提琴，在四川音乐学院通过了初评鉴定。

何夕瑞是西南交通大学兼职教授；四川音乐学院特聘教授；美国环球弦乐协会贵宾会员；重庆市首届工艺美术大师；何氏三圆琴创始人。

“It is not only essential to accumulate the cultural and historical backgrounds of its appearance and development, but also necessary to know the structures of the instrument and woods, together with the kinds of trees, places of growth, sunshine, soil, geographic features, etc. I think that a good violin producer must be a craftsman, musician, physicist, chemist as well as a humanist. Arts also depend on one's feeling and comprehension. Arts suffer no sameness; otherwise we'd better call it 'products' instead of 'works'. There is never the best one; that's exactly the charm of arts." (He Xirui, translated)

The main distinct feature in San-yuan violin is the differentiate thickness of its ribs. In San-yuan violins, the thickness of the rib is reduced on the side of the lower register to make the tone more focused while that of the upper register is enhanced to increase its resonance. As a result, the San-yuan violins possess powerful and clear tone. They have also nicely balanced and even tone on all four strings that are rich in overtones. They are mellow, deep and rich in the lower register yet bright and brilliant in the upper register. The violins are responsive with nice resonance and good projection. These are new violins with the tonal sophistication comparable to that which you can usually find only in old European masterpieces.

三圆琴造型优美，线条流畅，琴身由上大下小各三个圆弧构成。琴头是按照中国传统如意做的，音孔是蝙蝠型，不同于以前的“f”形。琴颈处也按照人体工学，做成了凹形。三圆琴与传统小提琴最大的不同在于，它的侧板一边厚一边薄。这是将高音做薄，低音做厚，不仅让高音更集中，还增大了低音的共鸣。另外在琴码和一些细节上，也做了一些变化。正是因为有了这些变化，何氏三圆琴的音色才不同于传统的小提琴，高音更加清澈透明，低音更加浑厚有力。

中央音乐学院管弦系主任柴亮拉了这把小提琴之后称：“演奏时感觉非常得心应手，泛音很多，音色非常优美动听。” 澳大利亚悉尼音乐学院教授张世祥，用这琴演奏，多次摘取了国际大奖。
